Examples of Student Work & Creative Projects

Here is a small selection of work created by students at Stanhill Tutoring, showcasing their creativity, knowledge and skill development across a variety of subjects.

From GCSE coursework to art scholarship assessments and 11+ preparation, students across Oswaldtwistle, Blackburn, Accrington and surrounding areas have explored a wide range of topics using both traditional and experimental techniques.

GCSE Textiles

Motif Designs
Year 9 students explored stitching techniques on felt to create textile motifs.
Sunflower Weaving
Inspired by close-up photography of real sunflowers, students created loom-woven pieces using cotton and wool yarns.

Clay Sculpture – 13+ Art Scholarship

Life & Death Series
Students explored symbolism and sculpture using clay and professional tools, inspired by the work of Michelangelo.
Includes clay skulls, leaves, pots and Viking masks.

Day of the Dead – KS3 Art, Design & Textiles

Students researched colours, symbols and traditions behind Día de los Muertos.

 

Work included:

  • Mood boards and concept development

  • Skull designs in felt with decorative stitching

  • Paper-based stitched artwork

  • Mark-making with crayons, drawing pens and pencils

  • Tone and shadow exploration

Insect Illustration – Year 9

Students studied insect anatomy and texture using lead powder and pencil.
Detailed watercolour butterfly artworks were displayed in class exhibitions.

Calligraphy & Gilding – Historical Manuscripts

Inspired by a museum visit, students explored medieval manuscript techniques.
They practised live drawing, gouache painting and applied real gold leaf.

The Human Eye – GCSE Art

Highly detailed lead powder and pencil studies by Year 10 students as part of their GCSE coursework. These drawings demonstrate tone, texture and shading techniques.

Dancing Ladies – 16+ Scholarship

A 16+ student created a series exploring movement and form.
Work includes layered lead pencil sketches, ink detailing, and tonal development.

Maths in Practice

GCSE and 11+ students working on a range of maths topics:

  • Geometry and algebra

  • Practice exam papers
